Taiwan and Korea signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on technical cooperation in soil and groundwater protection in Seoul in August, 2012. It is the foundation to the exchange and share the technical information in soil and groundwater related issues between two countries. Taiwan and Korea signed an extension of the MOU in August, 2016 to continue another 4-year cooperation program. According to the MOU commitments, this project would conduct joint-research projects between two countries. The 2016 joint-research topics include “Soil Remediation Off-Site Treatment” and “Groundwater Quality Monitoring and Management”. The project execution teams of both countries collected and exchanged information on the laws/regulations, policies/strategies, institutions/technologies, and case studies on the two topics to carried out the comparative analysis of the Taiwanese and Korean situations. Also, one site-visiting and two forums of each joint-research topics were held to better understand the current status and challenges of both countries. Recommendations were then made to the authorities for advancing the cooperation and promoting the value of the joint research program.
